Yamba Yabbies held their meeting on September 7 and our Toastmaster Jeanette chose ‘Numbers’ as the theme. This was so good and we all learnt so much to do with numbers and what some numbers meant to us all. As well as a visitor, Andrew, we had our Area Director, Garry Euston from Summerland Toastmasters in Lismore, who made his official visit to our club and in his address to the meeting, he told us that the theme for his conference, which will be held Saturday September 12, as being “It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing”. We have two members taking part in the speech contests and they are Belinda S in Evaluation and International and Annie in Table Topics and Humorous. All members wish them well. Garry was accompanied by his wife Alison, who gave us an educational on Evaluation. Alison has won many contests, so it was so good having her give us her time and bring us this training. Other roles were explained and they were: Timer Belinda B, Meeting Listener Lauren, General Evaluator Jan B and Grammarian Ilma with her word of the night “Add up”, “Add it up” or a synonym of the word/s. There was only one speech given by Jan C whose title was “Dreams Come True”. This was from her Competent Communicator Manual “Inspire Your Audience” No. 10. Jan told us all about her trip overseas to Ireland, Scotland and England and the wonderful shows and places she visited. She showed us a lot of her memorabilia she brought back with her. Belinda S gave us the best Evaluation that we have heard a member give for some time. Well done! Following the break, Caz introduced the ‘Soap Box’ and she called on Lauren, Annie, Ilma and Noel to take part. This is so good, as members get to speak about things they either love or hate. Members get lots of laughs from this as well. Meetings are held 1st and 3rd Mondays at the Yamba Bowling Club commencing 7pm sharp.
